The media giant decided to migrate from its home of 63 years – the iconic Caldecott Broadcast Centre on Andrew Road – to a new purpose-built facility in one-north. Subsequently, this new centre will span over 12 floors, across 800,000 sq ft housing all of Mediacorp’s 2800 employees. Furthermore, being fully equipped with state-of-the-art production and digital broadcasting facilities including four entertainment studios and a 1500 seat performing arts theatre – the first of its kind in the region.
Firstly, Kajima were named as the main contractor for this new-build project with Maki & Associates and DP Architects heading up the design collaboration. The building itself revolves around the vision for an open plan office concept to drive unprecedented levels of collaboration. Subsequently, Maki & Associates’ vision was a digital-first: A fully integrated newsroom staffed by some 700 journalists producing for digital, television, radio and print.
Secondly, an integrated workspace, thriving with interaction between professional spheres, relies on the ability to visually make these connections. Thus, lying at the heart of the architects’ designs was the use of glass; including glazed partitioning and doors. Having previously worked with Kajima contractors, our Asia Pacific team were selected to design, engineer and install all glass partitioning, doors and frames, from the first through to the twelfth floor.
As a result, our Asia Pacific team installed Optima 117 plus into Mediacorp’s new home – an elegant, silicone free, single glazed partition system – to further allow natural light transmission across the building and to encourage a collaborative working environment.
In addition, we also installed double glazed Edge doors with Tech Panels that serve to provide in-room customisation and control. For areas where a greater level of privacy and sound control was required, our double glazed Revolution system with blinds was installed, along with timber doors in Microflush door frames. Consequently, both of these highly functional products give the user control over the level of acoustic privacy, without compromising on aesthetics.
To sum up, our Asia Team worked tirelessly to ensure the project was delivered on time and within budget, working directly with the project’s main contractor, Kajima. Subsequently, this highly successful project is a testament to our Asia Pacific team’s commitment and ability to deliver high quality cutting-edge glazed partitioning systems to world-class media corporations.
