In his role as Sales Manager, Glyn oversees our international operations across the whole of the Asia Pacific region, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, India and Australia.
Glyn’s Optima journey began in 2006 when he joined our Special Works division as part of the specification sales team, drawing on his previous construction industry experience.
Promotion to Optima Major Works’ specification team followed soon after. In 2009, an opportunity arose for Glyn to manage our Approved Contracting Partners in the South East of England, Channel Islands and the Republic of Ireland, overseeing sales in these areas. “The role really appealed to me because it gave me the freedom to travel and I also relished the challenge of increasing Optima’s market share in these areas,” said Glyn.
Two years later, Glyn began looking at developing our overseas markets, in particular, Asia Pacific, as Optima began to identify potential new areas of growth. In 2012, he made the big decision to leave his life in the UK behind and move to Singapore to launch Optima’s Asia Pacific business, as a new manufacturing facility was opened in Kuala Lumpur.
Things have come along way in the region since then. “When we first set up the division, not many people had heard of Optima. Now, having completed over 200 projects, we have an excellent reputation within the industry and architects and designers want to specify our products,” said Glyn. “The move to the new manufacturing facility in 2016 really helped us to expand our operations and broaden our product offerings. Business has grown year on year, and we are predicting further growth for 2018/19.”
Whilst he is based in Singapore, Glyn regularly travels to all of our operating countries, managing our Contracting Partners – MTM in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and India, and Quadric in Australia.
With the emergence of new developing markets such as Indonesia and India, exciting opportunities undoubtedly lie ahead for both Glyn and Optima’s Asia Pacific business.
